Music publishers do this routinely when preparing new editions from historical prints. The print has 79 measures in 3/4 with two key changes (A-flat major, then E major at m24, then A-flat major at m39). The piano part has two voices per staff, 57 triplet groups, clef changes, an 8va passage, turns, a trill and fermatas. The German text uses 1842 spelling and typography (long s, \"Thür\", \"dek-ken\"). A professional engraver needs roughly a working day. Current OMR output on scans like this needs heavy correction, and OMR handles the lyrics poorly.\n\nStarting State: input/score_scan.pdf, 3 pages (printed pp. 4-6): Emilie Mayer, \"Das Schlüsselloch im Herzen\" (text: Marie Nathusius), No. 2 of Zwei Gesänge, Berlin: C.A. Challier [1842]. It is an unaltered colour scan: IMSLP #133706, scanned by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, public domain. MuseScore 4.7.5 is installed. The VM has no network access (network mode \"off\"). VM timeout: 10 h (36,000 s), a working day plus margin; the blind self-test took about 5 h.\n\nInstructions & Rules:\n1. Create a new MuseScore score with Voice (one staff) followed by Piano (grand staff). Set the title (\"Das Schlüsselloch im Herzen\") and the composer (Emilie Mayer). Both are graded.\n2. Engrave every measure exactly as printed: key and time signatures and their changes, clefs and clef changes, and all notes with correct pitch spelling, octave, rhythm, tuplets, ties and grace notes on the correct staff. Reproduce the 8va line. Clefs and the 8va line are graded.\n3. Enter the lyrics under the voice, one syllable per note, as printed. Keep the 1842 spelling (\"Thür\", not \"Tür\"; every \"Thür\" is checked), the umlauts and the capitalization.\n4. Optional and not graded (reported only): dynamics, hairpins, fermatas, ornaments, slurs and tempo markings.\n5. Save output/song.mscz and export uncompressed MusicXML to output/song.musicxml from that same score after your last edit. The two files are compared and must contain identical notes and lyrics.\n6. Work from the scan only. Do not use any existing digital edition of the song.\n\nRevision 2 (2026-10-02), after DeepReview: timeout raised to 10 h; \"Thür\" modernization now fails explicitly; title, composer, clefs and 8va are gated; optional markings are labelled as ungraded. Revision 3 (2026-10-02), after the second DeepReview: the native song.mscz is now parsed and must be a populated score consistent with the MusicXML (staves, measures per staff, note and lyric counts within 2%); clef identity is compared in full (sign, line, octave). Revision 4 (2026-10-02), after the third DeepReview: the native check now compares content, not counts. Every pitched note (staff, measure, onset, duration, MIDI pitch, spelling; 8va applied) and every lyric syllable (staff, measure, onset, verse, text) in song.mscz must be identical to song.musicxml. The positive MuseScore fixture now carries the reference's 9 corrections (6x \"Thür\"), and count-preserving native-only pitch, spelling, rhythm and \"Thür\" mutations fail. The attached zip contains the reference, the grader with 47 tests, a draft task_card.json (ALE repo format), VERIFICATION.md (with revision notes) and the blind self-test.","software_licensing":"Free/Open Source","evaluation_criteria":null,"verification_method":"Run: python grader/grade.py --reference reference/reference.musicxml --output-dir output/\nIt needs Python 3 and music21 10.5 and takes about 1 s. Scoring is binary: score = 1.0 only if every gate passes, otherwise 0.0.\n\nG0 files: output/song.musicxml parses. output/song.mscz must be a readable MuseScore file whose top-level .mscx holds the same score as the MusicXML, i.e. the MusicXML must be an export of the native file. Staves and measures per staff must agree, and the grader parses the .mscx and requires identical multisets of pitched notes, keyed (staff, measure, onset, duration, MIDI pitch, spelling as tonal pitch class; 8va lines applied), and of lyric syllables, keyed (staff, measure, onset, verse, text). A single changed pitch, spelling, rhythm or syllable in either file fails. Any MusicXML or native file containing the OpenScore provenance strings (openscore, eloge, lc5834245) scores 0.\n\nG1 structure: 3 staves (voice, piano RH, piano LH); 79 measures; key signatures (4 flats, 4 sharps from m24, 4 flats from m39) and 3/4 at the same measures as the reference; same repeat barlines (none).\n\nG2 notes: for each staff and measure, sounding notes are compared as multisets of (onset in measure, spelled pitch with octave, tie-merged duration); grace notes stay as graces. Pass needs recall >= 98% and extra notes <= 2% of the 1,350 reference notes. Enharmonic respellings, wrong octaves and wrong tuplet rhythms count as errors. Voice numbers, beaming, stems and layout are ignored. Notes under 8va are compared at sounding pitch. In LH m18, m19, m37 and m38, where the 1842 print omits a clef change, either the literal or the corrected reading is accepted.\n\nG3 lyrics: for each of the 133 reference words (175 syllables), the submission's syllables on the same notes are joined and compared case-sensitively with the printed word. Punctuation and apostrophes are ignored, and long s = s, ß = ss, k-k = ck. Pass needs >= 95% of syllables AND all 6 words printed \"Thür\" spelled \"Thür\". Modernizing them to \"Tür\" fails even though 167/175 syllables would clear 95%.\n\nG4 notation: the title contains \"Schlüsselloch\" and the composer contains \"Mayer\" (MusicXML work/movement title, credits, creator); >= 99% of note positions carry the same clef identity (sign, staff line and octave displacement) as the reference (LH m18-19 and m37-38 exempt, because the print omits a clef change there); the piano right hand has an 8va line starting in m32-34 and ending in m36-38 (reference: m33-37).\n\nReported, not gating: F1 for dynamics, hairpins, ornaments/fermatas and slurs.\n\nThe reference is the OpenScore Lieder transcription lc5834245 (CC0), checked measure by measure against the scan and corrected in 9 places (8 lyric words and 1 spurious dynamic; see VERIFICATION.md). The grader's 47 tests cover both directions. It accepts equivalent encodings (another MusicXML writer, tie-split notation, .mxl input, alternative hyphenation, long-s/ß variants, alternative clef readings). It rejects errors: missing notes, enharmonics, octaves, tuplet rhythm, extra notes, modernized or misaligned lyrics (including a single modernized \"Thür\"), a missing title or composer, a missing 8va line, missing LH clef changes, a wrong clef line or octave, an empty, corrupt, truncated, mismatched or provenance-carrying .mscz, count-preserving .mscz-only changes (one pitch, one respelling, one rhythm, one or all six \"Thür\" modernized), a .mscz without its 8va line, a one-note MusicXML-only change, a missing measure, a wrong key, provenance strings and a missing .mscz.","software_and_version":"MuseScore 4.7.5","specific_requirements":null,"expected_completion_time":null},"files":[{"file_id":"3b832084-7e22-42b8-98ad-b4a5e61eebb4","filename":"score_scan.pdf","category":"input_materials","content_type":"application/pdf","size_bytes":4693266},{"file_id":"f4fc49d8-9f3f-4444-ad0f-d2fb06c0035a","filename":"lieder_scan_engraving_1_reference_and_grader.zip","category":"reference_output","content_type":"application/zip","size_bytes":200111}],"deep_review":{"overall_verdict":"Accept","review_text":"**Overall Verdict:** Accept — The submitted revision is complete, professionally representative, and reachable, with coherent grading and no material contributor-side gaps identified.\n\n**Completeness Check:**\n\n- Instruction: Complete — Required score content, historical spelling, output artifacts, and optional markings are clearly distinguished.\n- Inputs: Complete — The readable three-page color scan contains the stated song and notation.\n- Toolchain: Complete — The free MuseScore workflow and evaluator dependencies are specified; the offline, single-machine task fits the stated runtime budget.\n- Reference output: Complete — The corrected MusicXML and native fixture independently agree on all 1,406 pitched note entries and 175 lyric syllables across three staves and 79 measures.\n- Rubric: Complete — Explicit binary gates cover structure, notes, lyrics, historical spelling, clefs, metadata, 8va, and native/export consistency.
